Woodcarvings and paintings
|
Artist Statement
I do wood carvings using aspen, cedar and cottonwood, carving traditional St. Francis to contemporary carvings (using natural pigments to paint some of them). My carving is all done by hand - using chisels, wood carving hammer and a knife. I have lived in Abiquiu most of my life and have both paternal and maternal relatives that have been wood carvers and worked with wood. I also draw and paint contemporary Retablos - using acrylic and natural pigments.
Our Gallery - Galería de Don Cacahuate is located in the middle of the Pueblo of Abiquiu. The name comes from old folk-lore stories told to us when we were kids - about Don Cacahuate (Mr. Peanut) & Dona Cebolla (Mrs. Onion). We sell wood carvings, retablos and natural dye weavings. Our gallery is open by appointment, call 505-6850568 or email Leopoldo Garcia.
